01In his own words

“La Becaria Wines is the expression of a defining moment in my life — the moment I chose to stand up, believe in myself, and make things happen.”

– Carlos Andrino
Founder of La Becaria Wines

02Background

With over 20 years in the restaurant industry, Carlos has worked across Spain, France, Italy, and now Sweden, always guided by a deep passion for gastronomy. From kitchen to cellar, he’s experienced many facets of the business. That passion and dedication led to the launch of La Becaria Wines, in the beginning of 2020 – focusing on gastronomic wines from Spain.

03The meaning

What does La Becaria really mean? In simple words, it means “the intern” or “the apprentice” in Spanish. It captures the true beauty of life; always open to learn something new — every single day.

The StoryBehind the Company

It started in 2008 when the founder of La Becaria, Carlos Andrino, did an internship at Bodegas Tierra. He did everything that is part of working at a winery; from working in the fields to the processing of the grapes. The owner of the winery always jokingly called him “la becaria”; the girl-intern (instead of the masculine form “el becario”). After a small mishap (that actually led to the production shutting down for a day), the owner made Carlos a crooked little scrap figure by hand that represented him, and this is something Carlos carries with him today.

It’s from those honest mistakes in life you learn from and the people you meet along the way that truly matters. The life experience, the stories and the emotional bond with the producers is what created La Becaria Wines.
